I always thgouht the Soul Calibur series was one of few beacons in a massive darkness. I mean, most fighting games are so generic. Tekken has been the same thing forever, and dont even get me started on Virtua Fighter. I used to love those games, but they have long since been dated . Anyway, Soul Calibur possesses similar qualities to the Dead or Alive series. Not the weapon and character customizing, but a variety of gameplay modes that players will keep wanting to play after they unlock every character, and beat timeattack several times.
